Kristin Smith
Executive Director
Kristin Smith is a longtime leader in the newborn care industry with more than 15 years of experience supporting families through birth, postpartum recovery, and overnight newborn care.
Kristin began her career as a professional nanny, working closely with more than a dozen children. In 2008, her work was recognized when Family Helpers awarded her Nanny of the Year. The following year, she was selected as a finalist to appear on ABC’s America’s Supernanny.
In 2009, Kristin trained as a Birth and Postpartum Doula through Warm Welcome Birth Services. Around the same time, following the birth of her daughter, she gained firsthand insight into how vulnerable and critical the postpartum period can be—an experience that helped shape her decision to focus her work on supporting families during birth and the early weeks at home.
Over the following years, Kristin attended 112 births and supported more than 200 families, including 39 sets of twins, through postpartum and overnight newborn care. As her private practice grew, she founded Nightingale Night Nurses, an overnight newborn care agency based in Massachusetts.
As her private practice grew, Kristin founded Nightingale Night Nurses, an overnight newborn care agency based in Massachusetts. Through this work, she built and led a team of experienced Postpartum Doulas, Newborn Care Specialists, and RNs and LPNs, providing individualized care plans for families seeking overnight and extended newborn support.
Building on that foundation, Kristin later expanded her work nationally under the name Well Supported Family, with a continued focus on ethical practices, professional sustainability, and high-quality, family-centered care.
After the birth of her daughter, Kristin experienced firsthand how vulnerable and transformative the postpartum period can be. This personal perspective continues to inform her leadership and advocacy for both families and caregivers within the newborn care profession.
In 2024, Kristin accepted the role of Executive Director of the Newborn Care Specialist Association, where she supports the board’s work around education, certification, professional standards, and the advancement of the newborn care industry as a whole.
Kristin lives in Western Massachusetts with her husband, Gerard, and daughter Juliana. She enjoys morning coffee, family hikes, card games, time at the beach on Cape Cod, anddreaming up new ways to strengthen support systems for families and caregivers alike.
